Lani Fand Weissbach taught a two-hour master class in Butoh to over 25 excited students and members of the community. In the afternoon, Shen & Bones performed Time/World/Body in the gorge under the foot bridge on the Allegheny College Campus. A Q & A followed the performance. The event was sponsored by Allegheny Dance Studies, Allegheny Neuroscience and the Erie Council on the Arts.

Butoh Lecture-Demonstration
Mercyhurst College, Erie PA, March 22, 2003
As part of a semester-long course entitled "Disseminating Asian Cultures," Lani Fand Weissbach presented a one-hour, 30-minute lecture-demonstration on Butoh. This was a-new course for secondary school teachers, initiated by Keiko Miller, director of Asian Studies and assistant professor of Languages at Mercyhurst College. The presentation began with a new 20-minute solo work choreographed and performed by Weissbach. A question/answer session followed, as well as simple exercises exploring basic concepts of Butoh improvisation. The class was given a series of questions and readings designed to help high school students discover how Butoh can be a springboard for learning about personal, cultural and universal concepts.

A purely physical dialogue between moving and still bodies interwoven with sound and silence.
creature/one ear to the ground
Creature/one ear to the ground merges two parts. The first, a solo, follows an animal-like creature-turned-human through the terrain of a self-made wasteland. A collage of images, text, sound and movement, the second part investigates the need for hope and connection to others and the earth.

Kingdom of Man
A raw and gripping work illuminating the physical, emotional and spiritual implications of women in this culture living in a man's world. The piece seeks to expose the powerful dark side of our collective psyche. The work premiered at Arizona State University and was performed for the Erie Underground Art Association's Bleu Katz 2 Production (Friday April 4, 2003).
